Munakkal Beach is situated in Azhikode
, a small village in Thrissur District , Kerala. It's around 9 km away from Kodungallur Town. The beach lies on the coast of Arabian sea , which has attractions like 400 meter open air auditorium , 1300 meter walkway , food court , skateboarding grip for children and a rain shelter. Basically , this beach was developed under the tsunami rehabilitation programme by the harbour engineering department. It's the largest beach in the Thrissur District.
Kites
In the year 2011 , I had a family trip to St Thomas shrine in Azhikode. The shrine is believed to be the first and one of the seven churches established by the apostle St Thomas in Kerala during the first century. As it's located on the banks of the Periyar river , I tried to capture some stills of a person catching fishes. But it didn't work out well. Also I took some other snaps of the shrine and the boats anchored nearby. We spent around 1 hour there and then started to the Munakkal beach.
FIsher men @ work
Chinese fishing net
As it was a weekend , there were a lot of people in the beach. The surroundings are well arranged with a lot of parking space , attractive entrance , walkways and other facilities. Fishermen were doing their work using Chinese fishing net and a lot of fishing boats can be seen in the river and the sea. Primarily , this is a estuary , where the Periyar river meets Arabian sea and offers a beautiful atmosphere. Some people were playing football , children were flying kites and families were enjoying the beauty of nature and the sunset. I observed well to capture the moments in my frames. It's a dazzling location , and if you have passion , you can utilize well your photography skills here.

How to reach Azhikode Munakkal Beach
If you are coming from Kodungallur or Thrissur side , continue on NH 7 and turn right at the junction , near to the Cheraman juma masjid. There is a sign board at the junction mentioning the St Thomas shrine road. Continue for another 7 Km to cross the Azhikode-Chamakkala road to reach the destination.
